To be a disciple of Jesus Christ is to accept that the teachings of Jesus and His early disciples as recorded in the New Testament are absolutely undisputable. As the New Testament is the fulfilment of the teachings of the Old Testament the Old Testament will need to be understood too. As Jesus is God, then if anybody teaches something contrary to Him then they are wrong? Jesus said:
Heaven and earth will pass away but My words (messages) will by no means pass away.
[Matt 24:35 & Mark 13:31 & Luke 21:33]
Paul said:
Whosoever transgresses and abides not in the doctrine (teaching) of Christ hath not God. He that abides in the doctrine of Christ he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed, for he that bids him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. [2 John 9-11]
If anybody teaches another way of Salvation other than by faith in Jesus alone they are in error, Jesus said so.
Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes unto the Father but by me.
[John 14:6]
If you abide in my word (message) you are my disciples indeed, and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. [John 8:31-32]
Someone may help you to come to faith or to follow Christ but they can only assist you. No one can organise our salvation for us we all have to obtain our own salvation from Christ through our own personal prayers. We all have direct access to God through Christ without the need for a person to mediate between us and God.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. [1 Tim 2:5]
Therefore to know the message of Christ and hence the truth, we need to have access to the words of Jesus, which means having access to the Bible in a language you can understand.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. [John 14:26]
Jesus and John taught that the Holy Spirit would teach us. Sometimes the Holy Spirit will teach us through a preacher or teacher. This does not give the preacher or teacher the right to say you have to submit to their institution to be saved.
These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abides in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
[1 John 2:26-27]
I still have many things to say to you but you can not hear them now. However when the Spirit of truth has come, He will guide you into all truth. [John 16:12-13]
Paul taught that anything that conflicts with scripture is incorrect.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. [2 Tim 3:16-17]
Even early converts verified the teaching of Paul using the Old Testament scriptures. So we see Christ’s message is irrefutable and everlasting therefore anything taught that contradicts it must be in error. We are individually responsible before God how we respond to the teachings of Christ. The best way to do this is by reading the scriptures for yourself.
...they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. [Acts 17:11]
