There are so many conflicting opinions around. How do we decide what the truth is. Disciples of Jesus have discovered that what Jesus said over 2000 years ago is still utterly reliable today and He said some amazing things:
(Quotations of Jesus are shown in red.)
Heaven and earth will pass away but My words (messages) will by no means pass away.
[Matt 24:35, Mark 13:31 & Luke 21:33]
If you abide in My word (message) you are My disciples indeed, and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. [John 8:31-32]
If you love Me keep My commandments, and I will pray the Father and He will give you another helper that He may abide with you forever. Even the Spirit of truth whom the world can not receive because it neither sees Him nor knows Him, but you know Him for He dwells with you and will be in you.
[John 14:15-17]
Paul the apostle in his letter to the Romans declared that the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead confirmed that He was the Son of God. In Jewish culture this meant that Jesus was God.
... the gospel of God ... concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. [Rom 1:3-4]
Jesus was physically a normal man and his soul had only the abilities of a man. Yet he was utterly one with the Holy Spirit and God the Father. Throughout the whole Bible the phrase son of man is used poetically to refer to a man. Likewise the phrase Son of God is in effect a poetical way of saying God.
Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in My Father's name, they bear witness of Me. But ye believe not ... I and My Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from My Father; for which of those works do ye stone Me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, make thyself God. [Joh 10:24-33]
The scriptures solidly confirm that astoundingly Jesus was God. On that basis we should pay incredibly close attention to all that he said.

To the uninformed “Christianity” can be very confusing because there are so many institutions and organisations that claim that they alone represent Jesus Christ on earth. On closer inspection many of them teach things that blatantly conflict with what Jesus Christ actually taught. With so many compromised “Christianity’s” then how do you work out what is the truth and what is in error.
Error comes by adding to or subtracting from what the Bible teaches, especially to what Jesus taught. By taking a Biblical text out of context you can almost make the Bible say anything you want. Example: A Russian border guard once told me quite correctly, that the Bible says there is no God. The full Bible text says:
The fool has said in his heart, There is no God
[Psa 53:1]
So error can come out of taking a verse out of its surrounding text and applying it to things it was not intended to be applied to. Error can also come by not looking at all that the Bible says about a subject and ignoring verses that do not fit your bias. Massive error comes by trusting in non Biblical material that contradicts it. Once you get to know the Bible you come to realise how utterly sufficient it is to establish truth.
The teachings of Jesus are only recorded in the Bible. Ultimately the only way to know you have the truth about Jesus is to study the Bible for yourself. It is important to follow the real Jesus and not a fake man-made distorted caricature of the true. Reading the Bible never did anybody any harm. The following link is to all the teachings of Jesus in the book of Matthew.
Jesus in Matthew |
Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master.
He had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher.
He had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer.
He had no army, yet kings feared Him.
He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world.
He did not live in a castle, yet they called Him Lord,
He ruled no nations, yet they called Him King,
He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him.
He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today.
I feel honoured to serve such a Leader who loves us!
