Every true disciple of Jesus faces the challenge of getting victory over bad behaviour and attitudes. The reason for failure can be due to half-hearted surrender and superficial repentance where deep down we actually want to carry on in our self pleasing ways. In this scenario it is necessary to truly turn and surrender ourselves wholly to God.
However, sometimes a person can have a very serious behaviour or attitude problem that they are unable to break free of, despite their genuine desire to change. They admit the fault, renounce, repent and ask for forgiveness but when under pressure of temptation they have no strength to stand.
Examples of such behaviour and attitudes are: idolatry, sorcery, promiscuity, perverted sex, lust, swearing, stealing and addictions of every kind, the need to be in control, narcissism, hypocrisy, deceitfulness, paranoia, eating disorders, insecurity, bitterness, anger, strife, grief, rebellion, jealousy, rejection, inferiority, selfishness, intolerance, self destruction, depression etc.

When we become a disciple of Jesus a major transformation takes place but there is more. Our transformation is not just an event but also an ongoing process. Despite having received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and being able to speak in tongues, it is possible to be caught in a snare of the devil which will require more than your repentance to be set free of it. It may be that the bondage is being caused by evil spirits which will need to be cast out for complete freedom.
For the good that I will to do, I do not do, but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. ... Who will deliver me from this body of death. [Rom 7:19-20&24]
The word death is being used here and elsewhere in scripture in a way not used in everyday English.
He who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgement, but has passed from death into life.
[John 5:24]
Those that Jesus said this to were already alive and have now died. Clearly Jesus was talking about a spiritual dimension. To enjoy what Jesus calls life we open the doors of our heart to Him and let Him reproduce His nature in us. Jesus is Life likewise Death is a spirit that rides upon our old sinful nature that was crucified in Jesus on the cross.
God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: [Rom 6:2-8]
Evil spirits from outside or from within us try to reproduce their nature in us by tempting us to let death be resurrected in us. Like a virus can attack our body and cause pain and disability, so death can cause pain and disability in our inner man. Also when a virus has been overcome, it takes time for us to return to full health again. Our inner man too takes time to heal as the death in us dies and the life of Jesus springs up in its place. Whenever we sense death is trying to be resurrected in us we present ourselves as a living sacrifice to God and die daily. [1Co 15:31]
He Himself ... that through death ... release those who through fear of death were all there lifetime subject to bondage. [Heb 2:14-15]
The fear spoken of here is not of dying but that which comes from the working of death within us or death's fear.
All bondage to wrong behaviour comes from wrong attitudes and all wrong attitudes are rooted in the fear that death tries to promote within us.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. [2 Tim 1:7]
For you did not received the spirit of bondage again to fear. [Rom 8:15]
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. [1 John 4:18]
We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death. [1 John 3:14]
When we start our walk with the Lord, it is often the case, that not every door within our heart was opened to Him. And sometimes hiding behind one of those doors can be a deceitful strongman who needs to be brought into the light and then cast out.
All this talk about fear can sound like conventional psychology, which is understandable as we are both studying the same problem. However the psychologist at best puts splints on the weakness where Jesus completely heals the problem by delivering us from all our fears.
... that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.
[Luke 1:74-75]
A serious issue is that deliverance can be hindered if we own or have in our homes what many refer to as cursed objects. By this we mean objects that are inspired, and in effect owned in the spiritual realm, by Satan. They will need to ideally be destroyed or disposed of. It is possible to be delivered from bondages through your own prayers. Similar to applying simple first aid to a cut but sometimes we might need the help of a doctor therefore if problems continue then get the help of mature disciples of Jesus to help you through. Do not give up. You may need some help to break free. Before praying the following prayers it would be of great benefit to have wholeheartedly surrendered to Jesus by working through the Seekers section of this website.
Lord Jesus, I admit and renounce all my wrong behaviour and attitudes. I desire to be completely free of these things. Please forgive me for everything that I have done wrong. I forgive all those who have ever offended me. I believe that You have opened up the way for me to be released from all evil influences. In the name of Jesus I cut myself off from my past and every inherited ancestral curse.
In the name of Jesus anything in me that is not from God, come out. In the name of Jesus every evil spirit assigned to deceive, steal, kill and destroy come out. In the name of Jesus all evil spirits of fear, death, rebellion, control, pride, vanity and lust come out of me now. In the name of Jesus come out of me, my thoughts, my emotions, my life, my well-being, my family, my job, my health, my call and my future.
My body is to be a temple full of the Holy Spirit not a temple of demons. As I place my hands on my body l command all evil to come out in the name of Jesus. In the name of Jesus Christ I command all sickness and disease to come out of every part and function of my being. In the name of Jesus I pull down and destroy in my life any alters, thrones/seats and any demonic attachments. Demons go and leave nothing evil behind. Take all your curses, assignments, crowns, rings, garments and paraphernalia with you. Any attacks on me that have left arrow heads or other blades in my body I pull them out and command the wounds caused to be healed in the name of Jesus. I command all damage to my spirit and my body whether caused by demons or not to be renewed and healed in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Remember you are now free for your spirit to recover and be healed. It will take time and you may be tempted to believe nothing changed and torment will try to return. Tell all fear to leave you alone in the name of Jesus. We move in God's power by proclaiming the truth until we are completely healed of our wounds and trauma. We need to be strong and not be weary for victory is there for all. Battles should only last for a short season. This most definitely works but if you are having problems breaking free do not be frightened or too proud to seek help.
